Ziyi studied Swahili at the Communication University of China and the University of Dar es Salaam, before embarking on anthropology at Sun Yat-sen University. Her academic interests intersect between health and social transition in East Africa under the theme of decolonisation in greater Global South.
At Oxford, she plans to carry out in-depth medical anthropological research in East Africa, exploring the complexities of medical knowledge production in postcolonial and re-colonial contexts, particularly in relation to the competitions amongst global powers and nexus of local politics. Her study at Oxford is generously funded by China Scholarship Council and China Oxford Scholarship Fund.
