Mohamed Cassimjee is a geopolitical consultant at Global Compass. He was a senior diplomat for South Africa for over 26 years. He served as deputy ambassador to Germany from 2016-2020, and prior to that served abroad in Washington DC, Uganda and Senegal.
He has served in various positions as a director at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) which also included covering the African Union (AU), European Union (EU) and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). Prior to joining the foreign service, he was an advocate (barrister) in South Africa.
He is a mentor at the Blavatnik School of Government, a Research Associate at the Centre for African Studies at Oxford University and Associate Fellow at the British Foreign Policy Group (BFPG). He is also an advisory board member of the SA/UK Chamber of Commerce in London.
He has consulted and presented on geopolitics. He has written on foreign policy, the Global South, UK foreign policy and political developments in South Africa for various institutions including Chatham House. He attended the Netherlands Institute for International Relations as part of his diplomatic training.
He presently lives in North Oxfordshire with his family.
