Mitterand Okorie is the 2023 James Currey Fellow and an Academic Visitor at the African Studies Centre, University of Oxford. He is a postdoctoral research fellow at the African Studies Centre, Rhodes University, South Africa, where he researches on intractable human rights problems in Africa. He holds a PhD from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and studied International Relations at Aberystwyth University, UK. He completed his B.A in International Relations from Eastern Mediterranean University in 2010.
Mitterand taught Peace & Conflict Resolution at Michael Okpara University, Umudike, Nigeria, between 2015 and 2018. He has also worked as a communications consultant for international agencies such as UNFPA, UNHCR and the Embassy of UAE, Pretoria.
His research interest is in political violence, African literature and African political philosophy. His publications have appeared on scholarly avenues such as Journal of Postcolonial Writing and Journal of Pan African Studies. He is author of the books, All That Was Bright and Ugly and Onyeka Nwelue: A Troubled Life.
