Hailing from Nigeria, Blossom Maduafokwa holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Barnard College of Columbia University, where she also double-minored in Africana Studies and Spanish & Latin American cultures.
She holds a deep interest in the power of creative expression in affirming cultural identity, which she has showcased through work at organizations like UN Women and the African Music Library, and through accolades like the Prince Claus Seed Award. Working professionally as a culture journalist and programmer / curator, she has had the privilege of documenting African art and culture through publications like Billboard and GQ South Africa, and collaborating with organizations like the African Film Festival, Inc. and the Africa Rising Music Conference.
At Oxford, she looks forward to exploring African cultural production and its role in decolonial resistance, as well as tracing the roles of war and militarism in shaping Nigeria’s distinct class landscape.
