The '20 Years of Democracy in Nigeria: 1999-2019’ conference was convened by Professor Wale Adebanwi on 6th December at St. Antony's College and the Blavatnik School of Government. The conference, which started with a keynote address by as Professor Larry Diamond, professor of Sociology and Political Science at Stanford University and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, reflected on different aspects of 20 years of the democratic process and its implications at all levels – in Nigeria and beyond. It brought together many leading experts on Nigeria including Eghosa Osaghae, Adigun Agbaje, Peter Lewis, Zainab Usman, Ricardo Soares de Oliviera, Nic Cheeseman, Ebenezer Obadare, Rotimi Suberu, Ebenezer Obadare, Matthew Page, Aliyu Modibbo Umar, Jibrin Ibrahim, Adam Higazi and Idayat Hassan. The special guests as Rt Hon Aminu Tambwal, the Governor of Sokoto State and Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of Ekiti State also spoke at the plenary in the evening.
