Part-time Departmental Lecturer - African History

The School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies and Faculty of History seek applications for part-time (50% FTE), fixed-term Departmental Lectureship in African History.

The role will involve teaching, marking and supervision for three courses: the MSc in African Studies, the MSt in Global and Imperial History, and undergraduate teaching in the area of African History
The two departments organise a range of lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences as part of their programmes and the appointee will be expected to participate and assist in some of these activities.

The post is based at The School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, 11 Bevington Road, Oxford and is fixed-term until June 2018.

The School is looking for the candidate who most fully meets the following criteria: a doctorate in a relevant field of African History, or evidence that a doctorate is imminently expected. Candidates with an interdisciplinary training or training in any relevant discipline are welcomed. These include modern history, social sciences and disciplines in the humanities which relate closely to the courses; the capacity to publish in international journals and with major presses in history, social sciences and/or African Studies; the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate students of high calibre, and to carry out student assessment; the ability to supervise advanced degree students in History and African Studies.
